Exercise 1.2
Optative + K-Class Prefixes

The words in Exercise 1.1 all used the Habitual stem of the verb. The words in this and the following two exercises use the Simple stem of the verb. With the Simple stem we can expand the Pronominal prefix to include Modal prefixes. The first Modal prefix we shall look at is the Optative. It expresses strong doubt. It takes the form aa-. After the Optative, Pronominal prefixes beginning with h- lose the h- and prefixes beginning with a vowel add a -y- to the beginning; but the 1sP prefix ak- adds -w- instead. Look at the model.
