Exercise 1.3
Future + K-Class Prefixes
The second Modal prefix we shall look at is the Future. The Future takes the form ë-.
Just as with the Optative, after the Future the Pronominal prefixes beginning with h-
lose the h- and prefixes beginning with a vowel
add a -y- to the beginning; but the 1sP prefix ak- adds -w- instead.
The vowel -a- after the Future is nasalized to -ö- by the regular rule of
Contagious Vowel Nasalization. Look at the model.
Future + K-Class Pronominal Prefixes |
ëk | tók | I will see it |
ëwök | tók | it will see me |
ësk | tók | you will see me |
ëök | tók | he will see me |
ëyök | tók | she will see me |
ëök | tók | they will see me |
You'll notice that in the Future, the Ms/1s (he does something to me) and 3dp/1s
(they do something to me) forms are identical.
